The short answer: no. A driver shaft with an adapter installed fits one brand's system, and sometimes only certain generations within that brand. No brand's sleeve clicks into another brand's head.
Our catalog covers 286 drivers released since 2018 (as of August 2026, and growing), and we have verified the hosel hardware on 268 of them: 232 use an adjustable sleeve, spread across 20 distinct factory adapter designs, and 36 are confirmed fixed-hosel clubs with no adapter at all. Once you account for the sleeves that genuinely interchange, those 20 designs still leave 18 separate compatibility groups that do not mix, and the same wall system extends to the fairway woods our matrix now covers. Here is how the system actually works, and how to check any specific combination before you buy.
Why adapters exist at all
Most modern drivers ship with an adjustable hosel system: a small sleeve glued to the shaft tip locks into the hosel, the socket where the shaft enters the head, at a chosen setting that changes loft, lie, or face angle. Among the 268 drivers whose hosel hardware we have verified, all but 36 use one. The fixed-hosel minority is real, though, and it is not only budget clubs. It spans entire budget lines: Wilson's D9 and Launch Pad, Cleveland's Launcher XL Lite pair, Cobra's Air-X generations, and every Tour Edge Hot Launch driver we have verified. It shows up in lightweight trims that trade the sleeve for saved weight, like Callaway's Star and 2024 Max Fast models and Tour Edge's Exotics Lite. And it includes a current flagship family: PXG's 2026 Lightning line tunes trajectory with weights instead of a hosel. On those clubs, whatever shaft is glued in is the shaft you play. Fairway woods flip the ratio noticeably: of the 199 fairway woods we have verified, 67 are fixed-hosel, because budget and lightweight builds make up a much bigger share of that category.
The adapter solves two problems for the manufacturer: it makes one head sellable at several lofts, and it lets a fitter swap shafts in seconds. But each brand engineered its own sleeve, and none of them agreed on a standard. That is the root of every compatibility question that follows.
Tip diameter and sleeve: the two layers of shaft compatibility
Shafts themselves are close to standardized. Wood shafts come in two tip sizes, 0.335 inch and 0.350 inch, and virtually every modern driver, including every one we have verified (with one on-paper exception explained below), takes 0.335, as does every fairway wood adapter we have verified. The 0.350 tip survives mostly on older clubs (older TaylorMade TP and Titleist models among them), and the fit rule is one-directional: a 0.335 tip can be shimmed into a 0.350 hosel, but a 0.350 tip will not fit a 0.335 adapter, so a shaft pulled from an early-2000s driver may be unusable in a modern head no matter whose sleeve you buy. (The on-paper exception: Honma specs its TR20 stock shaft tip at 8.6 mm, which is 0.339 inch on a spec sheet but lives in the 0.335 world in practice; aftermarket TR20 sleeves are sold as 0.335.)
So when a forum answer says "any 0.335 shaft fits any driver", it is technically true at the bare-shaft level and practically misleading, because a bare shaft is not what you install. You install a shaft plus a sleeve, and the sleeve is brand-specific.
That gives every "will it fit" question two possible answers:
- Sleeve-level fit (the no-work path). If the shaft already wears a sleeve that matches your head's system, it clicks in and you are done.
- Tip-level fit (the workshop path). If the sleeve does not match, a club builder can pull the old adapter, clean the tip, and install the right one. Any 0.335 shaft can become compatible this way, for the price of an adapter and the shop labor to install it.
One practical note for any adapter change: adapter parts differ by a few grams, and weight added or removed at the hosel end can shift the club's swing weight slightly, so a careful builder weighs the old and new hardware and compensates if the difference matters to you.

Can you use a TaylorMade shaft in a Callaway driver?
No brand's sleeve fits another brand's head, full stop. A TaylorMade shaft with its Loft Sleeve does not click into a Callaway head, and no setting or wrench pressure changes that. Among the drivers with verified sleeve data, the factory systems break down into these 18 families (where two factory designs interchange, they share a row):

These are running totals in a growing dataset, not a census of everything each brand has ever sold: we add drivers to the catalog continuously (286 at last count) and verify hosel hardware model by model, so the counts above only ever go up.
Two useful things fall out of the table even so. First, the biggest brands are remarkably stable: every TaylorMade driver we have verified, thirty-six models across nine model years, takes the same sleeve, and Callaway and Titleist are similarly consistent for their full-size drivers. A used shaft pulled from a 2018 head often clicks straight into a 2026 head from the same brand. Second, the walls are absolute: eighteen groups, no cross-brand fits anywhere in the matrix.
The same wall system now extends to fairway woods, which our matrix covers alongside drivers: 132 verified adjustable fairway woods across 15 sleeve families (families shared between drivers and fairways are counted once, which is why the combined matrix shows 22), plus the 67 confirmed fixed-hosel models above. For several brands the fairway heads take the same sleeve as the drivers (a TaylorMade fairway wood uses the same Loft Sleeve, for example), which is good news for anyone sitting on a drawer of pulls. But not every brand does it that way, and that is the newest trap in the next section.
Same brand, different sleeve: generation and fairway traps
The brand wall is easy to remember. The wall inside a brand is where buyers get burned, and our matrix calls out every confirmed break.
Ping is the classic example. Ping's G410 through G440 drivers use what Ping calls Trajectory Tuning (and, from the G430 on, Trajectory Tuning 2.0). Despite the version bump, the sleeves interchange: aftermarket replacement sleeves are sold as one part covering both, and we treat them as a single family on that basis. But the G400 generation, one step earlier, uses a physically different adapter that does not fit any G410-or-later head. If you buy a shaft advertised as "fits Ping" and it turns out to carry the G400 sleeve, it will not go into your G430.
Cobra is the newest example. Every Cobra driver from the 2018 King F8 through the 2024 Darkspeed takes the same MyFly8 sleeve, but the 2025 DS-Adapt line switched to a new 33-position FutureFit33 hosel that does not interchange with MyFly8 in either direction; the vendors that sell replacement sleeves state plainly that FutureFit33 does not fit 2024-and-earlier heads.
The subtlest version of the trap is a brand using a different sleeve for its smaller heads, and with fairway woods on the matrix we can now see how common that is. Titleist's GT280 and GTS300 mini drivers take the Fairway SureFit sleeve, a physically different part from the driver SureFit hosel every full-size Titleist driver uses, even though both are 0.335. Callaway's Quantum Mini does the same thing with its own OptiFit 4, which fits neither the OptiFit 2 driver system nor the OptiFit 3 fairway system.
Four brands are confirmed to split their driver and fairway sleeves outright. Callaway (OptiFit 2 drivers, OptiFit 3 fairways), Honma, Mizuno, and Tour Edge each use a fairway sleeve that does not interchange with their own driver sleeve in either direction. A shaft pulled from your driver (a "pull", in used-market listings) is not automatically a donor for your fairway wood, even inside one brand.
Mizuno's drivers, meanwhile, run the pattern in the friendly direction: one Quick Switch sleeve spans everything we track from the 2018 GT180 through the 2026 JPX One, so those eighteen drivers form a single family across five different nameplate eras (its fairway woods are the separate sleeve noted above).
This is why "what brand is it" is not enough. The right question is "which sleeve family is it", and that is the question our data answers.
How we verified this
Manufacturers do not publish interchange charts, so we built one. Every compatibility row in our database is inferred from aftermarket sleeve part coverage, cross-checked across suppliers: when every replacement-sleeve maker sells one part spanning two hosel generations, that is strong evidence the generations interchange, and when a generation always gets its own part (as the Ping G400 does), that is strong evidence it does not. Where a manufacturer's own documentation settles a case, we cite it directly. Each claim on the site carries its source, and anything we could not corroborate is marked rather than guessed.
That verification is ongoing. The catalog is reconciled against the USGA conforming-club list every month, which is one way it reached 286 drivers, and each new model enters the compatibility matrix only after its adapter hardware clears the same cross-checking. As of August 2026, 18 of the 286 are still in that queue, each for a documented reason: limited-run and Japan-market models with sourcing too thin to meet our evidence bar, and a few where the available sources genuinely conflict and we would rather wait for a tiebreaker than guess. A model you do not see anywhere in the matrix yet is unverified, not incompatible.

Are golf shaft adapters universal?
No. Each manufacturer designs its own sleeve, and no brand's sleeve fits another brand's head. Within a brand most sleeves carry across generations, but confirmed breaks exist, such as Ping's G400 and Cobra's 2025 FutureFit33. Can I use a TaylorMade shaft in a Callaway driver?
Not as it is. The TaylorMade Loft Sleeve does not click into a Callaway head. But both systems use a 0.335 inch shaft tip, so a club builder can remove the TaylorMade sleeve and install a Callaway adapter, making the same shaft fit for the price of the adapter and labor.
Do driver and fairway wood adapters interchange within a brand?
Sometimes. TaylorMade fairway woods use the same Loft Sleeve as its drivers. But Callaway, Honma, Mizuno, and Tour Edge each use a fairway sleeve that does not interchange with their own driver sleeve in either direction, so a shaft pulled from your driver is not automatically a fairway wood donor.
Will a Ping G430 shaft fit a G400 driver?
No, in either direction. Ping's G410 through G440 drivers share one sleeve family, sold by aftermarket makers as a single replacement part, but the G400 uses a physically different adapter. A G430-sleeved shaft will not lock into a G400 head, and a G400 pull will not fit any G410 or later head.
